Phi Rho Sigma
Looking for affordable housing? Hoping to make some new besties in Medical School? Join Phi Rho! We are a co-ed group of 26 1st and 2nd-year medical students who live just a 5-minute walk from campus. We study, socialize, and plan activities both for our community and for the entire medical school to enjoy.
Housing
Our four houses are located on Erie Street SE (624-636) just a few blocks from campus, a short walk to the river biking and running paths, and easy access to I-94! We live in apartment-style housing with a main house/common area complete with a bonfire pit, library, study room, laundry room, and hang out space for playing pool, darts, and foosball. We even have a sauna to combat the cold Minnesota winters! Members can choose from 1, 2, or 3 bedroom apartments, giving each apartment their own kitchen, bathroom, and living space.
Rent is the cheapest on-campus ($500/month, depending on unit). All utilities (heating, electricity, gas, water, and trash/recycling/compost removal) are included in your rent. Free laundry is available in the main house (and laundry detergent is provided)! We also provide some basic supplies, including toilet paper, paper towels, light bulbs, cleaning supplies, compost bins, and trash bags. There is a nominal annual fee for our high speed/wireless internet. Additionally, air conditioning is not included, and there is a small one time fee if you choose to use it.
Parking
Although we are definitely close enough to walk, we have parking! We have an off-street parking lot available to our members for a fee of $25/month. There are even a few garage spots available (for an extra fee). Alternatively, members can get a permit to park on the street for free. Both are great options!
After moving out of Phi Rho, MS3s and MS4s have access to free parking in our alumni lot. This is critical during any of your clinical rotations at Fairview-University! Those parking ramps get expensive! (Alumni: please make sure you have registered your car! We don't want to accidentally tow your car!)
Depending on availability, non-Phi Rho members may purchase parking from us. Please contact us for more information.
Social
As a community, we have catered family dinners once or twice a month. Throughout the year, our community plans a Pedal Pub, trivia nights, TopGolf games, laser tag, Twins Games, brewery tours, barbeques, a Super Bowl party, party buses for Medical School Prom and more! We host joint events with the other fraternities, including Greek Olympics (current champs). For the medical school at large, we host bonfires, a "first test" celebration, and a Halloween party.
